Did you know that today, the 22nd April is Earth Day? A day where millions of people around the world show their support for the environment.
This year’s theme is ‘Restore Our Earth’ and calls for a focus on reducing our impact on the planet as we look to natural processes, green technologies and innovative thinking to repair damage already done.
Last year, many countries impacted by coronavirus were forced to impose lockdown measures. During these periods of relative shut down there was evidence of nature healing as emissions were able to fall. However, the latest figures from New Scientist show that global CO2 emissions are now back up above pre-pandemic levels.
It’s clear more action is needed, and it’s clear that we as a company must also be part of the solution. It’s estimated we need to cut emissions by over 45% by 2030 just to keep global warming to 1.5°C. No easy task.
That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that our CO2 emissions at Trust DFM are now 100% carbon offset – making us a carbon positive workforce. In addition, we’ve gone beyond business impact to offset the carbon footprint of each of our employees, including their homes, personal travels, holidays, food, hobbies and beyond.
Through partnership with Ecologi, a leading climate change campaigner, we are helping to fund global climate crisis solutions. Every month we contribute to the planting of groves of trees and the financing of carbon reduction projects around the world. Our contributions have already funded in excess of 130 trees planted, with 2 planted in Nicaragua, 72 in Mozambique and 56 in Madagascar (and counting). We’ve also supported the conversion of waste biogas into electricity in Thailand and adoption of fuel efficient cookstoves in Honduras.
On Earth Day and beyond, It’s exciting to be part of the solution. We will continue to update you on our progress towards positive impact via our social media channels.
